ENGLISH TRAINING THROUGH Tamil
Friends,
WE DON'T CELEBRATE DEEPAVALI.
However, I give below nostalgic Flash back of my DEEPAVALI in my school days in 1970s.
However, I give below nostalgic Flash back of my DEEPAVALI in my school days in 1970s.
We celebrate only PONGAL or THAI THIRUNAL the Harvest Festival in mid January.
For me the house of my maternal dad, Mr.S.V.RAMASAMY (name changed) was like my grand father's house. He was a Yarn merchant cum Hobbyist Civil Engineer who helped me construct the house in which I live today.
Generally on the eve of DEEPAVALI, his second son Mr. S.RAJARAM, (name changed) 2 years older than me, will meet my father and try to get his permission to take me and my brother to their home to celebrate DEEPAVALI.
My father was an atheist. So he will not generally allow us to go there to celebrate Deepavali. For him, one day before or after will be ok to allow us go. But with great efforts my cousin will plead and argue with my father for hours to allow him to take us to their home.
I remember that depending on the mood of my dad, on alternate DEEPAVALIs we used to get his permissions to go.
Once, I joined for a job, I used to opt to work on the eve of DEEPAVALI. Since we don't celebrate it, at least I wanted my colleagues to get leave easily and celebrate DEEPAVALI in their hometowns.
However, once I got married, we used to go to my father in law's house. There they used to get crackers, sweets etc to my daughters. And my daughters used to really have a jolly enjoy time.
Since my dad was an atheist, we never had the chance of celebrating DEEPAVALI or other religious functions at home. We used to celebrate only our birthdays.
Mr.S.RAJARAM, B.Tech, MBA, was one of the closest of my fifty and odd cousins. I should thank him for getting me a job in M/s.Premier Mills, Hosur. (More about him later).
